EDWARD F. TRAVERS - President, Senior Surveyor
Mr. Travers founded Edward F. Travers & Associates, Inc., in 1984, after holding senior positions at two large international surveying companies. Mr. Travers' surveying firm is now in its third decade providing a full range of surveying and loss mitigation services as well as on-site hazmat and oil spill response supervision in the Pacific Northwest and inland western states, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada.
As of July 1984, this company was started as a response to numerous requests by Major Maritime Principals to serve as their cargo claims specialist in order to facilitate and achieve their damage prevention objectives. Specifically, we created a quick response Marine Surveying Company that encompassed all facets of "Multimodalism".
My personal experience in the Transportation Field encompasses over 40 years and includes working as a Longshoreman, Teamster Truck Driver and Warehouseman, Airline Customer Services Representative and, commencing in 1974, as a Marine Surveyor and Cargo Consultant. Initially, while still a student at Seton Hall University, my transportation experience started in 1969 as a Longshoreman in Port Newark, New Jersey. My direct East Coast affiliation ended in September of 1978, when, at the request of American President Lines, Ltd., I moved to Seattle, Washington, in order to perform all of their Vessel and Cargo Surveys.
We were appointed by the Britannia P&I Club to be the "Lead Surveyor" for the November 1998, Seattle, Washington discharge of the Vessel "APL CHINA". This Vessel lost 406 Containers overboard and had 555 Containers damaged. We formatted a Computer Data Base Program that greatly facilitated the minimization and mitigation of what has been considered the largest Container Loss in the United States to date.
Mr. Travers is a graduate of Seton Hall University and an alumnus of St. John's University Graduate School. He is active within the Northwest Community affairs and speaks frequently at insurance and transportation industry conferences and seminars, and as a guest lecturer at the University of Washington.
In February, 2006, Mr. Travers was inducted into the inaugural "Washington Lacrosse Hall of Fame" and has been a recognized International Lacrosse Referee since 1976 and is currently in his 40th season.
